Tupelo, MS – Nov.12, 2007 – Recognizing the need for affordable coverage for small businesses, Humana Inc. and the Community Development Foundation announced today that they will offer a program called Chamber Health to small employers (those with 2-99 employees) who are members of the Community Development Foundation.
The program will include discounted health, dental, and life insurance coverage for small businesses in the Tupelo/Lee County area, starting January 1, 2008. The businesses will have access to health-plan options including Humana’s consumer offerings (consisting of high-deductible health plans with health savings accounts) as well as more traditional preferred provider organization (PPO) plans.
“Small businesses are looking for ways to continue offering affordable health benefits to their employees,” said Evans Looney, president, Humana of Tennessee/Northern Mississippi, which are based in Memphis. “This new program offers small employers more options and choices – at a competitive price – when purchasing health benefits. The program also goes beyond health benefits, providing small businesses with a comprehensive approach to managing their benefits so they are not a drain on the bottom line.”
“We are constantly seeking new benefits to enhance our chamber member’s experience,” said Jack Reed, Jr., Community Development Foundation Chairman. “There is no greater benefit to our members than affordable, comprehensive healthcare for their employees. By partnering with Humana we are not only adding value to our member’s investment in CDF, but we are promoting good health for all of Tupelo and Lee County.”
The Chamber Health program will also include workshops to help small employers make more educated decisions in choosing a health plan that best fits their financial needs and those of their employees. Wellness and health-education programs including a health-risk assessment will also be offered at no charge to Humana members.
“At Humana, we believe one of the best ways a business can control its health care costs is for its employees to become savvy health care consumers,” said Bryan Wenger, director of small-business sales for Humana of Tennessee/Northern Mississippi. “Humana is an industry leader when it comes to health care consumerism, and working with employers to help their employees make more informed health care decisions.”
Humana’s product portfolio includes preferred provider organizations (PPOs), consumer-choice offerings including high deductible health plans with health savings accounts, its HumanaOne individual coverage, dental and life products, and numerous Medicare products including Medicare Advantage plans that combine health and drug coverage, and stand-alone prescription-drug plans.
