CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Leadership / Networking
TUPELO, Mississippi

First Friday

First Friday is the premiere networking opportunity for the Northeast Mississippi Region. Join officials, executives, small business owners and community leaders every first Friday of every month from September through April each year.

At First Friday, you'll be able to mingle with like-minded, successful professionals, get a great (free!) meal, and hear presentations by some of the Region's (and the State's) most outstanding leaders!

Jim Ingram Community Leadership Institute

The Jim Ingram Community Leadership Institute is a seven-month, two-year, program designed to enhance community leadership development and to enhance personal and professional growth. The two-year program consists of one year of training and one year of community re-investment.

The Institute consists of four (4) one-day sessions with three (3) two-day sessions.

The sessions are planned between October 2004 and April 2005. The three two-day sessions are scheduled for October, January and April. The opening session is scheduled for October and the closing session will be held in April. All of the two-day sessions will be held at the Whispering Woods Hotel and Convention Center in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Also scheduled are four one-day sessions to be held in the Tupelo/Lee County area and a recognition banquet is planned for April 2005.

There are three components to the overall program.

  • Community Orientation:
Program sessions address topics such as economic and community development, education, health care and local government. Various sites in the community will be toured.
  • Enhancing Leadership Skills:
Leadership skills will be addressed at all three two-day sessions. Skill building exercises will include personal development assessment, visioning and strategic planning, speaker and presentation training, effective communication techniques, and consensus building.
  • Community Leadership Re-investment (CLR):
The program will require one-year institute training and one year of Community Leadership Re-investment. Participants will "re-invest" into the community what they have learned during the nine-month institute training. The one-year Community Leadership Re-investment will be made to a non-profit organization or a defined community need.
