It’s summer time…time for flowers to bloom, time for trees to show their greenest of greens, and time for gardeners to flock to Mid-South Nursery in Tupelo for all of their horticultural needs.
Byron and Betty Fellows, owners of Mid-South Nursery, have created a retreat for all ages of plant lovers. First known as the Sportsman’s Market, Betty’s father, Whitt Marion, started the business after World War II. At that time they did everything from testing boat motors in the lake behind the place, to running the nursery department. It wasn’t until 1976 that they moved to their current location at 133 Coley Road, that Mid-South Nursery became strictly a retail garden center.
Mid-South Nursery carries trees, shrubs, annual and perennial flowers. The Mid-South flower of the year is the Coneflower and is featured right now at their location. They also carry gift items from all weather art and furniture, to water proof rugs and concrete fountains. Their unique product lines are marketed as items that can turn outdoor spaces into actual rooms.
While their foliage is of the highest quality and new and unusual items grab you at every corner, perhaps it is the high level of customer service and the hometown feeling that prompts their strong customer base to keep coming back.
“We stress customer service and product knowledge,” said Byron Fellows. “We know our customers, we know what they’re asking for and what they will like and won’t like. We have second and third generation shoppers that still shop with us.”
One of the pure delights of Mid-South Nursery is their Christmas Shop. They begin preparations for it after Labor Day, culminating in a grand open house the first week in November, with Christmas Trees arriving shortly thereafter. Mid-South Nursery is the largest Christopher Radko Christmas ornament dealer in Mississippi, making them a Rising Star Dealer.
Superior service and quality plants abound at Mid-South Nursery. Their professional staff is courteous and readily available to assist any customer’s needs. You can see children wandering the aisles as their parents choose their flora; children who will one day walk those aisles preparing for their own yards. Mid-South Nursery is more than just a plant shop, it is a horticultural haven for plant lovers of all ages.
