Since January 2005, Dr. Wiebe has been a Business Counselor for the University of Mississippi Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The SBDC provides a variety of services to more than 10,000 small businesses in both as start-ups and as ongoing firms. The services include individual counseling, workshops, and information exchange. The SBDC assists in the development of business plans, marketing, management, innovation development, and financial planning. Dr. Wiebe will be available in Renasant Center for IDEAs to assist those considering becoming tenants and to assist the tenants as they develop and grow.
Dr. Wiebe retired in 2004 after thirty-four years as management faculty member at five different universities. His last twenty-five years as a member of the faculty at The University of Mississippi, he taught a variety of undergraduate, MBA and Ph.D. level management courses. His research and thirty-six published articles included three proceeding and ten papers on entrepreneurship and small business. Among these was one written jointly with his collogues Scherer, R.F. and Adams, J.S. which won the three of them the T.I.E.M. Foundation Award of Excellence at the 1988 International Council Small Business World Conference.
Dr. Wiebe was born in 1940 in Lawrence, Kansas. He received three degrees from the University of Kansas: B.S. in Business Administration, June 1962; M.A. in Social Psychology, May 1971; and Ph.D. in Business, May 1975. He was a member of the United States Air Force serving on Active Duty, November 1963 - May 1968, and the Active Reserve, September 1969 - July 1974 with Captain, the highest rank held. Dr. Wiebe and his wife Angela have two daughters and moved to Tupelo in 1998 when he became a faculty member at the University of Mississippi Advanced Education Center.
