The first Japanese automobile, the Toyota “Toyopet”, hits the US for testing/research.
Fall 1958  
The first Toyopets go on sale. Only 287 were sold.
July 2008  
An original 1958 Toyota Toyopet Custom Crown Deluxe, previously owned and registered by the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, California, is purchased by a community of supporters in Tupelo, Mississippi and brought to the Tupelo Automobile Museum.
Aug. 2008  
Full restoration begins with a target date for completion in the middle of 2009.
