The annual Northeast Mississippi Economic Forecast Conference will be held Tuesday, January 24 at the BancorpSouth Conference Center. The event will begin with coffee and networking at 8:30 a.m., with the conference commencing at 9:00 a.m.
The featured speakers for this year’s event are: Mr. Fred Barnes, co-founder and executive editor of The Weekly Standard; Ms. Lynn Fitch, Treasurer, State of Mississippi; and Dr. David Irwin, chairman, Community Development Foundation (CDF) Board of Directors.
Mr. Fred Barnes is co-founder and executive editor of The Weekly Standard. From 1998 to 2009, he was host, along with Mort Kondracke, of the Beltway Boys on FOXNews. Barnes appears regularly on FOX’s Special Report with Bret Baier. He has also appeared on FOXNews Sunday, CBS This Morning, Nightline, Meet the Press, Face the Nation, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Barnes authored the book Rebel in Chief: Inside the Bold and Controversial Presidency of George W. Bush, in 2006, based on his exclusive interviews with top administration officials—as well as President Bush. Over the years, he has written for Reader's Digest, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Spectator, Washingtonian, The Public Interest, Policy Review, and both the Sunday Telegraph and Sunday Times of London.
Ms. Lynn Fitch was elected Treasurer for the State of Mississippi, in November 2011. She previously served as executive director of the Mississippi State Personnel Board, an agency responsible for directing more than 130 state agencies and overseeing 32,000 employees. Prior to her appointment to this position by Governor Haley Barbour, Fitch served as deputy executive director of external affairs and support services at the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
Dr. David Irwin, CDF chairman and cardiologist with Cardiology Associates of North Mississippi, will speak on the state of economic affairs on a local level.
